Gallery of Fluid Motion

The Gallery of Fluid Motion consists of posters and videos submitted by attendees illustrating the science — and very often also the beauty — of fluid motion. Both computational and experimental entries are encouraged. Poster and video entries must not duplicate one another.

Gallery of Fluid Motion (GFM) Deadlines

  • GFM Poster and Video Submission Entries deadline was September 16, and is now closed to new entries:

    • GFM Videos: Uploaded by October 9, 2019 EXPIRED

    • GFM Posters: Upload and bring to Meeting

      (New this year, posters should be uploaded prior to the Meeting and a hard copy should be brought to the Meeting.)

A panel will select outstanding entries based on artistic value, scientific content, and originality. The winning entries will be published as a special supplement to Physical Review Fluids. The top three winners in each category will be presented the Milton Van Dyke Award  – consisting of a small monetary prize; a copy of the Album of Fluid Motion; and an award certificate.

The contributions will be displayed in the Exhibit Hall at the Washington State Convention Center. The award-winning entries will be announced on Monday, November 25th during the afternoon refreshment break.

  • Your poster will be displayed in the Level 4, Exhibit Hall AB of the Washington State Convention Center.

  • Your poster has an assigned number which will be displayed on the board.  You have an available display area of 45″ x 45″ (1.21 x 1.21 m). Do not let your poster spread into someone else’s space.

  • You will be able to hang your poster between 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Saturday, November 23rd and between 6:30 am and Noon on Sunday, November 24th in the Exhibit Hall.

  • Push pins will be provided at an information and supply table in the Exhibit Hall. You can find out your number and location there as well. Please confirm you are hanging your poster in the right section.

  • Posters that are not placed by Noon on Sunday, November 24th will not be eligible for the competition judging.

  • Any poster shipping tubes or carriers left by the poster boards will be discarded. Please take any tubes with you after you hang your poster.

  • Posters must be removed by 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 26th or they will be discarded.



Video and poster authors should be in the Level 4, Exhibit Hall AB during the Refreshment Break (16:16 - 17:16) on Monday, November 25th. Prize winners will be announced at this time.


Presenters must take down their posters by 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 26th. Any posters left after 1:00 pm will be discarded.
